Change Every Light Bulb In My House

Turns out that it takes a while to change 1000 passwords.

An additional stressor during the holiday “break” was the announcement that my password manager experienced a pretty bad data breach, so an additional task I had to rush to the front of the queue wound up taking on over the holiday “break” was to change every password that I’m still using and delete every outdated account, including sixteen (!) expired Scribd burner accounts.

Whoops, I forgot to add IT department to the list of jobs I have to do to keep afloat. Twelve, twelve simultaneous jobs, mwa-ah-ah-ah.

You encounter a strange hodgepodge of ghosts when you clean out your password manager, some of them quite spooky indeed. Whole email addresses you’ve forgotten about, for instance. Next thing you know you’re getting mail from 2014.

Although this sudden IT project has been annoying — I’d rather to anything beside my own IT work — it has also sometimes been surprisingly meditative.

So I’ve spent the better part of a week getting my digital life in order, which has been annoying, but now that I’m in the homestretch of that project I’m feeling really excited to continue this as one of my performances this year — as yet untitled — which is about digital organization.

I’d already begun laying the foundation for this years shifts in my artistic practice. I plan to perform getting a car, for instance, which includes getting a driving license. This is how I’m going to transform my practices this year, through quotidian performance, through closing the gap between life and art.

With the gloom of the holidays behind me, I’m feeling the engines warming up. I’ve tapped something I haven’t felt since before the pandemic, since before grad school if I’m being honest.

NEW 50’♀ ALBUM, IN THE RAW,  COMING IN MARCH

Since we last checked in, I found an album in my December recordings and I’ve decided to release that album in March, complete with an album release show, and I’ll be sharing the stage with some amazing musicians I’ve been meaning to book with for some time. I’ll be announcing all of that soon enough.

I’m going to try to build a little excitement for the album and release a couple of singles from the record in February. Maybe I’ll get a little press, who can say.

HABIT BUILDING

I'm going to aim to publish free posts here every other day for the next month or so, get myself in the habit of posting here. Hopefully this won’t be to annoying for your email inboxes.

Since I’m no longer posting my first song of the day, here’s my password-changing anthem, the lead track from my favorite Wonder Stuff album.
