10 Feb: Film screening & artist reception

As told in their own voices through art and film, Aging and the Lived Experiences of Transgender and Gender Non-conforming (T/GNC) Older Adults: Narratives through Art is a juried exhibit seeking to share some of the diverse lived experiences of transgender and gender non-conforming older adults (T/GNC). This  exhibit centers T/GNC individuals’ unique narratives and make their lives visible. The artwork chosen celebrates the strength and resiliency of these individuals while also sharing the painful challenges encountered. The process of living authentically may instill hope and bring joy, but often this process involves losses and pain as well. The purpose is to increase understanding and knowledge of the lives of T/GNC older adults while supporting Monmouth University’s commitment to create an inclusive, affirming, and equitable campus community.

In conjunction with this gallery exhibition we invite you to the FREE film screening/panel discussion of the film From This Day Forward with director Sharon Shattuck and her parents Trisha and Marcia Shattuck on Friday, February 10th from 11 am – 1:30 pm. Find more information about this event here.

Following the film screening there will be an artist reception in the Pollak Gallery from 2-3 pm.

This exhibition is sponsored by: Monmouth University’s LGBT+ Older Adult Project, The Center for the Arts and The Intercultural Center

SAVE THE DATE(S)

Back in December I spent two days in the Magpie Cage recording studio with J. Robbins recording dozens of songs, just me and my guitar.

In March I'll be putting out an album of some of these songs, 50'♀ In The Raw: Live From the Magpie Cage. In the tradition of some of my favorite live-to-tape records (e.g., 4-Track Demos, The Trinity Session; Back to Basics; Texas Campfire Tapes) I'm excited to share this album of songs, most never before recorded and some of which have been out of print for years, and I'll be celebrating the album's release with a show upstairs at Zissimo's on 1 March. I'll be supported by Jeff Waters and Lady Hatchet, front woman of The Scotch Bonnets in a rare solo set. Show poster and album art coming soon!

Speaking of Zissimo's I may be jumping on their tribute to Tom Petty show Feb. 8, reprising my Doin' It Doin' It Duet ("Insider") with Christina Reitemeyer of Double Decker Decadence. Paul Joyce of Megazillion has some exciting tribute nights planned at Zissimo's this year; I'm very much looking forward to this series.
